I have a 1998 HP pavilion computer with Windows 98 on it. It has a floppy drive and a CD drive. I have no way to make the internet work on my computer because I have DSL and my computer is jacked up in the inside and will not support it. ( this is not the problem )

My new laptop only has a CD drive only.

I need to get the saved documents from the old computer to the new computer without using the internet or a floppy drive. I went to the store and got DVD-R CD's, but my old computer says the device is not ready and will not let me save them.

What can I do?

thanks

I have a USB port, But when I put the USB memory stick in it does not work because it needs some sort of drivers that I do not have. It wants to search for them, but I do not have the internet

Assuming you don't have a router. you can upload your documents to your yahoo briefcase from the old computer. Then log on to the new laptop and get it from the briefcase.

I'm guessing your HP machine doesn't have a USB port? If it does not, then another solution may be to pull the hard drive from the old PC and put it into a Fantom Drive enclosure and then connect the Fantom drive to your Laptop via a USB. This is complicated but would do the trick. Or buy an external DVD burner and attached it the HP machine - but I like the external hard-drive solution better as you'll be able to repurpose the hardware later.

Option 1) Use a USB Flash Drive from Wal-Mart to copy your data between the two PCs (cost: $10 for flash drive)

Option 2) Take your computer apart, remove the hard drive, purchase a device such as this from Newegg to connect your old hard drive to your laptop and copy the files. Device: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812119017
Cost: ~$18, plus 1-4 days wait time for shipping.

Option 3) Contact me or another computer tech for a more detailed solution: wolfpackmars2@yahoo.com

I know this problem way too well..... I did find that a thumb drive works great for this and they aren't all that expensive either.. i think i got mine fo $14.00 or less and it's a 32 mb... you can purchase some that hold more info.. but just save your docs on it and bring it to the other pc and transfer it. works like a floppy disk would generally

if you can connect your two computers with a LAN cable, they should be able to detect each other and you can transfer files that way.
