Self esteem does not affect teenagers or anyone, but the lack of it can kill you.

Self-esteem at any age is beneficial. Good self-esteem may keep a teen away from high risk behaviours such as unprotected sex or excessive drinking. This is because a teen with self-esteem would have enough confidence in himself or herself to trust their own limits and not bow to peer pressure. Self esteem could also help teens plan better for their futures as they could have the confidence to follow their own dreams rather than whatever someone else wants to do.
