I don't know what a "hardcore conservative" is in your mind. But I am one and have NEVER thought Iraq was behind 9/11 and neither have any of my friends. However, Hussein did support terrorism making him a valid target.

I'd like to see sources that the administration was able make a convincing tie to Iraq. They were able to connect the dots with Afghanistan and the AQ training sites they found there. They never were able to effectively connect Iraq to 9/11. Just as the conspiracy theories are not able to effectively connect the WTC/Pentagon attacks to anything other than fantastic claims with no basis in fact.

And if you knew what our leaders knew, you might have a different view of "four years of pointless war". Think about this. Iran has nukes. We leave Iraq, Iran moves in, shoots a few well aimed nukes at Israel, America is forced to respond by sending more troops and hardware into Afghanistan & Saudi Arabia. At this moment, all the radical Islamics embedded in America, Britain, Japan, Spain, France, Russia and virtually every other free western nation carry out an organized attack. Who is going to be at home to deal with this and save the sorry butts of "patriotic" Americans who have exercised their right to free speech? Nobody will be available to help as they will have their own domestic attacks to deal with. Either way, western civilization loses. Better start taking a longer view in world events and stop trying to connect blame to a man you hate so much you are willing to lose everything to be proven right.

And before mentioning "supposed WMD" keep in mind that by the definition of the UN, Sarin and Mustard gas are both WMD and were found in abundance in Iraq.

I have never heard even "hard core conservatives" say the Iraq "was behind 9/11."
That being said, consider the evidence and intelligence available before the war and the bipartisan support for the invasion.
Instead of playing the hindsight is 20/20 game, imagine if we had done nothing and the intelligence had been correct - that was the decision faced by our elected reps prior to the war.

If you have never Bush or the conservatives say Iraq had anything to do with 9-11 then you were not listing.

Anyone who still thinks that Saddam had something to do with 9/11 disagrees with Bush. He's said more than once, on video, that Saddam and Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks.

That's a common misconception. The invasion of Iraq had to do with Iraq's supposed possession and possible distribution of WMD's, and it's only relation to 9/11 is just that it's supposed to be part of the "axis of evil".

I don't hear anyone saying that. What conservatives are saying is that Saddam supported terrorists. That in incontrovertible.

Oh conservatives don't operate on facts. If they did well they wouldn't have a leg to stand on to support any of their arguments.
