The head of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq from May 2003 to June 2004, one of the first "official" decisions that Paul Bremer ordered was the de-Baathification and the disbanding the Iraqi army -- some 200,000 military members. In June and again in August '06,(On "Frontline") Bremer now views that move as a "mistake".
I agree. I think the Iraqi army (especially right after the invasion) would have welcomed the US and would have kept insurgency at a minimum, keeping in mind that they wanted to be free also.

No it was another mistake by the US in the Iraq war. Bremer and his co were thieves who stolen millions of dollars while the Iraqis are slaughtered in Abughreib. The Iraqis during Saddam had no choice but being Baathists they were forced all Sunni and Shiaa.

Would it have been OK to leave the Nazi SS intact after WW II?
Of course it was the right decision.
