I download a video file but the format is .avi and it wont play on Windows Media Player, it doesn't recognize the codec, so I wanted to know if I could change the format into .wmv.
I also wanted to edit the video using Windows Movie Maker, so is there anyway I can do that?

WITH WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER YAY!!!

if you have windows media player 11 the codec problem should not occur unless your trying to watch porn then it will say codec error but it really wants you to install an active x control so it can bug your computer...even more yay!!!

the AVI file is probably encoded in divx or xvid. these are 3rd-party codecs that windows doesn't ship by default, you'll have to download them (don't worry, they're all free)
search the web for 'divx total pack' or just 'divx codec'. download & install it. from then on your AVI will play anywhere.

Download the codec for Divx files, or the player, or the converter:

Have fun!
