No way. The doctor has special tools that he/she will use to open up the vaginal area to enable a "better picture". You don't have that kind of equipment. Also, a doctor normally only does a pelvic exam to check for other things, like diseases when you first visit for a pregnancy. They also will do a transvaginal ultrasound at about 2 months to visualize the fetus' heartbeat. Once again, you don't have this kind of equipment at home. Do not try to do anything like this at home under any circumstances. You can cause a miscarriage. Let the doctor do his job, and you just be the patient.

Early in pregnancy the uterus in still small so it would be hard to tell. There are better tests. go to the doctors and they will do all the necessary exams to ensure the health of ur baby.
And they usually do pelvic exams after a few weeks have gone by to ensure the grown of the uterus in comparison the size it was last time u visited.
Trust me, I'm 12 weeks and can just start to feel a little bumps in my lower abdomen, when I lay down. A pelvic exam or yourself, especially when u don't know what u are feeling for is both a waste of time and could harm the delicate sac ur precious baby has as protection.
I know how u feel, I use to couldn't wait to feel it and now I want wait until my little bump in a round bump that I can feel move and for me my fiance and our families can feel on.

If you're 12 weeks pregnant or more you can feel your uterus through your abdomen. It will feel like a balloon down there pretty close to your pubic bone. This is perfectly safe to do. However if you are less far along than that there is no way you can tell by doing your own pelvic exam. A female doctor couldn't even do it on herself. Just take a pregnancy test- it's much easier.

You can buy a urinary pregnancy test from the pharmacy or chemist. If you go to the doctor, a urine sample will be taken and a pregnancy test given.
The tests used by labs are slightly stronger and able to detect quicker but not that much quicker.
If you're far along in your pregnancy, and the doctor does a physical exam, then the doctor will be looking for the health of you and your baby, not if you're pregnant or not.

No. You don't know what you're looking for, and the doctor does.
Any anyway you need to have been pregnant for a good number of weeks before even a doctor can tell by pelvic exam.
Get a test from the chemist. That will give you an early and accurate result.

What the doctor looks at is not something you would be able to do on your own. They don't even need tools sometimes. I had a doc once that just 'looked' and he knew I was pregnant. The color/fullness of everything had changed - but he'd also been delivering babies since the late 60s.
Unless there's someone intimately familiar with how everything usually looks, you're looking at some foreceps, sorry.

Madam i think u should let the doctors do their job cos a little wrong step during the pelvic exam by yourself could land u up with bleedind per vaginal and my culminate to unfortunate results of premature labour or abortion. The only test i think u may do safely is a urine strip test for pregnancy...but that too may give wrong results...so expert opinion is advicable.am a medical student.

First of all Sue, they have a device that opens everything up so that they can see way far up there! They are looking for a mucus plug (which isn't there if you are not Oreg.) Besides, I have never heard of a Dr. needing to look inside of a woman to see if she is pregnant. They do not need to do that, nor should they be doing that.
Its much safer if you just go by a preg. test.

um, I'd just get a test if I were you because the doctor knows what they are looking for and it will be difficult for you to really see or understand what is happening. Or make an appointment with your doc asap.
