Yes,
Genes control all physical chracacteristics and most behavioral ones too. But it is easy to alter your physical characteristics like hurting yourself. Your behavior is self determined, but your brain power is usually genetic. so technically you could do anything you wanted, and stillyour genes would code for that. If you got hurt, your genes would code for your healing and how you will look after getting hurt. If you change behavior, they will determine how you feel.

I disagree that people have to be like thier parents, although similarities are inevitable, everyone has mutations in thier genes, it is almost impossible not to have one. These mutations alter us, and give us a new place in society. But these are still genes.

Probably.

While our genes control many things, it has also been shown that what we learn through our culture and education also affect how we react to the world.

Various chemicals, can affect the way the genes are regulated. Proteins can change the way genes are expressed.

The genes of a living thing don't control its environment, in fact they are a response to or result of its environment. Otherwise, life is driven by the processes of chemistry and physics.

But that doesn't in any way trivialise it - we will never understand the full complexity and subtlety of life, any more than we will ever reach the speed of light. However much we discover and understand, what remains will always be infinitely mysterious.

There are biological and environmental influences in your life. Genes have a large part to do with how you look, phisical traits you carry as well as potential health issues. The environment you grow up and live in does have an affect on your personality, possibly your height - poor nutrition or overcrouding - on the hind side - clean air and good nutirion can also affect how you mature.
