What is your thought about Tarot Cards, do you believe in them? What is you experience with the cards? What are the "rules" in owning a deck? I know that no one else is suspose to shuffle the deck, as it will mess up the whole "vibe".....Just wondering...I would like to have a deck to play around with, where do I purchase them at?
NOT ON-LINE PURCHASE?

Where you would get your own deck depends on where you are. Check for a "metaphysical" bookstore or general-type store in your area. There are thousands of different types of decks out there, so I'd go with something traditional like Rider-Waite to start with.
In my tradition, your deck should be new, so that no one else has used the cards but you. It's best that no one else handle the deck unless you're doing a reading that requires the person being read for to touch the cards. The deck should become "attuned" to you.
The deck should probably be cleansed prior to using it by passing it, at least symbolically, through the 4 elements (air, fire, water, earth). It should also be cleansed again after anyone else has touched it. I have a special box for my cards so no one can easily touch them.
As for believing in them, I believe that the cards, since they are symbols providing interpretations, will help you to puzzle out questions you've been asking or muddy future situations you are unsure of. The cards are not the be-all end-all in themselves. They are a tool to guide your own conscious and subconscious mind and spirit in the right direction.

The many different tarot decks available will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question.
I am a professional psychic and always have at least 4 different decks on the go at any one time. When a deck get’s a bit too well worn I buy a new deck (often from eBay). I prefer to work with as new a deck of cards as possible so the shuffle and deal smoothly and quickly. I usually sell my old decks on eBay too. Here’s a live RSS feed for Tarot Decks on eBay at the moment. http://feeds.feedburner.com//TarotDeck
You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html
Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

Decks should be new (as in not handled by a bunch of other people, so on display at a store is not the best. Maybe one that is in a glass case) or given to you by someone. Although you can cleanse it I guess if you let others shuffle like someone else said. I'm sure your deck will hae instructions, and if not, just buy a book on the tarot. The decks do not have different meanings as far as I know...
By the way, regarding believing in them, I agree with Philosophy's post above. Really all the knowledge in within us; cards are just one of the tools of helping to see.

I have several Tarot decks and have been doing readings for myself and my family for over 20 years.
There are several different types of decks and I get a different type of reading from each deck I use. My Thoth deck gives me mostly negative readings while my Golden Dawn deck gives mostly positive. So, if I'm wondering what challenges I will face I use the Thoth deck so I know where my stumbling blocks will be.
I personally don't like the Ryder-Waite deck, but it is the most popular (my husband uses it) and you can buy it in almost any bookstore.
I'm also very pragmatic and I don't believe that you need to cleanse or "tune" your decks. I believe the cards themselves don't contain the energy to answer your question, but that the answers are inside you and you affect the outcome. So, I always meditate before I do a reading so I can attune myself to the universe and open myself to its energy. I've also done pretty accurate readings with a deck of playing cards - you don't really need a special tarot deck. Anyway - that's just my opinion and it works for me.
When you start doing readings do what feels right to you.
If you are uncomfortable going to a metaphysical or new age bookstore you can usually find decks at big chain bookstores. Our local Hastings has a nice selection of tarot decks and Barnes and Noble also have some.
If your local Barnes and Nobel doesn't carry them you can always special order them.
Good Luck and have fun!

I have people shuffle my deck... that way it can familiarize itself with that person's energy and give a more accurate and personal reading. You can cleanse it after every reading. I have heard that you shouldn't do a reading on yourself with your 'public' deck. You can get decks at bookstores (I know Borders usually has a good selection) and at metaphysical stores. Pick a deck that appeals to you... certain cards have different meanings depending on the deck.

I got my Rider-Waite deck from Borders......it was a b-day gift.
After my car accident I started to experience things.....a gut feeling of sort. Seeing things before they actually happened. I don't like reading for myself.....I'm biased in what I want to see. I love reading for others and have quite a large group of people who get readings from me and they have all said that my readings are very accurate.
I don't like anyone touching my deck......everyone is different and it's up to the reader to choose how to shuffle/cut/deal etc.
There are many places to learn the tarot...... a great site to start is
http://www.learntarot.com/ It offers a FREE course.
Interpretting the cards depends on the reader they all have a base meaning and you need to combine that meaning with your gut/instincts or what have you.
Here are also 2 forums that offer great advice and info on the art of Tarot.
