Shawshenk Redemption is still my favorite, and I've watched it many, many times. The story is just excellent, and I love the characters, and the message.
Why should you watch it? Well, becasue I'm not telling you the ending and you'll love it. Because it has depth, but doesn't leave you depressed. Because the characters are incredible. Because it has drama, and mystery, and humor. And, I've only met one person who actually didn't love it.
(Wish I could watch it with you. I love seeing someone watch it for the first time.)

Monsoon Wedding
Why? Because it tells a new story from a culture that is new to most Western viewers, it has amazing music, its visually beautiful, its romantic, the cast is good looking and it was directed by Mira Nair.
