My sister told me today that she is pregnant! Yippee!....BUT, She is four months gone and its her second child, the first being a girl! When she had her first scan the doctors found that she has a growth on her ovary! Although they said the baby is okay, should be worried! Naturally she is, but I was wondering if anyone can help me if they know anything about this kind of thing, or if you have experienced this yourself or know someone who has! Any knowledge would be appreciated! Thank you guys! x

Hi-

Congrats to your sister and you (Auntie).

You didn't give a lot of details about this "growth". Could be alot of things. I had polycystic ovaries. That meant that I had tons of very very tiny cysts gowing. I actually took birth control pills to make them go away. (So if this is what your sister has- the hormones from the pregnancy would make them go away)

Other then that I don't know. What are the doctors telling her? They should be able to give her more detail as to what is going on. If they are not- or she isn't comfortable with what they are telling her, please encourage her to see another MD for a second opinion.

In the meantime, stay as possitive as you can with and for her. Being stressed out isn't good for her or the baby. So, you can help her out there.

I hope everything turns out well.

Well, I had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary that they found during my first ultrasound with my first child. The doctors moved to high-risk which meant that I had to have an ultrasound every month and i was jusst more closely monitored. They wanted to try and remove it while i was pregnant but i was too afraid to do that. My cousin ( ovarian cysts run in our genetics ) did have hers removed while she was pregnant, her and the baby were fine. I waited and 6 months after I delivered I went out dancing with my girlfriends and landed myself in the hospital with emergency surgery. However they couldn't save my ovary and when they removed the cyst they removed my ovary and my fallopian tube. I've been pregnant again since so it did not affect my ability to conceive.
This is in no way medical advice, it is just whatI experienced. Every female in my family has had them, we get them when we were pregnant with our first. Modern medicine these days is amazing. Just take the advice of your docs and DO NOT listen to other peoples horror stories. Tell your sister not to get stressed when the situation may not warrant it. Good luck to you and your family. Congrats on the pregnancy. I hope all does go well.

as long as this growth doesnt get any bigger and cause your sister pain she should be ok. its quite common to get growths on your ovarys when pregnant and many women give birth without problems.

i hope your sister continues to have a healthy pregnancy and that the growth doesnt cause any problems for her.
