Because we live in a sexually driven society and they cant see the breast for its true purpose- nutritious food source for a growing baby.

WoW!! For the lady that posted under me, What on earth are you saying?? You willing to let your baby be hungry while you look for a secluded place?? OMG!

My children's needs, wants and desires mean a whole lot more to me then some lady glaring at me for feeding my baby.

In short they are jealous cranky over grown babies.

There is some backing to whatever fear is makeing them freak out. Some men are turned on,.. some people never were breast fed,.. some women are turned on,.. and then there is this fear that "What if children see?". Well if the children are healthy they already saw when they were a baby... unless their parents jealousy or laziness made them refuse their children be breast fed. And the most sheltered of children still have a clue anyways,.. they have a chest they can stare at.

So the people whineing are just jealous or have some fear,.. because they are abnormal,... and they don't want anyone to know,.. so they feel preventing someone else from breast feeding will keep this stuff hidden in the closet from everyone else. Paranoid much?

Added: To your Added: Your supposed to act like they aren't a sentient being and maybe slap them a couple times to get the record to quit skipping. Maybe use your magical remote to pause or mute them. Or you could even have a sitter you pay 2,400 dollars to a day. --> People are delusional <--

I agree with you. I am 12 weeks pregnant and am totally up for breastfeeding even after hearing the horror stories.

I would have been a person to Say that pumping would be a simpler option, however after hearing that pumping isn't always possible I see where u are coming from.

Don't worry about it. I think as long as you cover up Ur safe, anyone else's opinion in ignorant and misinformed.

Remember no matter what you do, there will always be someone to hate on what Ur doing. That is just what some people do, day in and day out just worry about what other people are doing just to make them uncomfortable

The all mightily Boob is too much for some...

I share your frustration & anger. I think that he people who call the cops or complain about breast feeding in public should be fined & jailed - not the nursing mother!
To tell a woman to pump is truly absurd...

The more women who nurse the better it will be for all of us. The more women who nurse in puclic the more its seen & accepted the less 'bad' it becomes. We can't give up!
We just have to support each other and not give in to other peoples problems or issues with nursing.

It astounds me also why people get so uptight about something that is as natural as sleeping! In today's western world we have developed to suit the working class man, rather than the family way of life. It is very unfortunate that woman & babies have to put up with such controversy over breastfeeding when there are more sinister & dire things going on around us.

On another note, I notice there are a few negative comments regarding mums who feed their babies formula. I am a mother who feeds formula [even out in public ooh aah] not because I wanted to, but because I 'had' too. I think people should keep an open mind and their negative comments to themselves when so many people's situations are different!

It shouldn't matter which way you choose/have to feed your baby or where, as long as your both happy, healthy & your babies have full tums.

Western society equates a woman's breasts with sex. This has been the case since the Puritans landed on Plymouth Rock. Even the idea that a woman's upper clothing can shift can inspire lewd thoughts in men's minds. (Remember how Janet Jackson's clothing got shifted and the uproar over that?!) Many men want to think of women as sex objects and partners, not as madonnas. Other men don't want to have sexual thoughts planted in their minds at all.

People think of breasts as sexual toys. When in all actuality they are a tool that is naturally there to nourish your children properly. Once they start serving their purpose it becomes "gross" to some people who get ngry when anything is done correctly. I tried pumping and my milk supply dwindled until none was there. Pumping isn't natures way of feeding- if I had continued with the breast feeding as was intended I would still be breast feeding.

I don't think that people should have a problem with women breast feeding in public. When your child wants to eat you have to feed him/her. I don't think its fair to the child to make them wait because you are in a public place. People are just so imature about this. I don't know why. When they are hungry they can eat without getting fuss from other people and a breast fed child should have the same right.

It's the sick sexualization of everything in our culture. Breasts are to feed babies. If adult men happen to enjoy them too, that's okay, but it is not their primary purpose.

I wouldn't feed my baby anyplace (such as a bathroom) where I wouldn't eat. And the whole blanket thing is just stupid. I don't carry a blanket with me everyplace I take my baby.

I'm grossed out by women giving their babies formula or Kool-Aid - mother's milk is what's best for my baby, and what narrow-minded perverts think is not going to stop me from giving it to her.

Pure ignorance. I proudly have been breastfeeding my son for 14 months - whenever and wherever I want to. I could care less if someone doesn't like it - in fact if some ignorant SOB is bothered by it - GOOD. I'm doing the most natural thing in the world and what is best for my child. I only wish I saw more women nursing in public then I wouldn't have to feel sorry for the infants I see getting formula (artificial, processed nutrition) in public. That is truly a sad sight.
