I've had my rose hair tarantula for a couple of years now but I still don't like to hold it. I guess I'm still scared of getting bit. I'm just curious if any tarantula owners have been bitten? If you have was it as bad as you had imagined? Tell me about your experience.

I used to have a red banded Mexican Tarantula, many years ago, but anyway, it would always crawl all over the place (freely), but one day I was rushing to get out of the house and hen I picked it up, I might have spooked it an dit bit me. It hurt like a mother fu#@er, and got pretty swollen. It finally went down and the pain went away, but it does hurt.

I have owned rose haired tarantulas and never been bit. We handle them gently of course. The funnest thing to do is scream- they will turn towards the sound and run to it :)
As for the venom, 99% of people are not effected by rose hair venom. There is only 1% (or less) of the population that will have an effect from it. If you think about it, if they were deadly or caused harm, you could not buy it in a pet store without a permit.

Bee bitten plenty of times, G. Rosea(rose hair tarantula) bites are really mild, they hurt a bit and you will have a bit of local numbness that's gone in less than an hour and no swelling.

My friend has several types of tarantula and has been bitten twice but both times she blamed herself for 'spooking' the spider...
She said it was like a really bad bee sting and was sore for a couple of days but that was it...
As for me... i dont get near enough for them to bit me!!!

My rose haired has never bitten me. I'm just extremely careful when holding it and for the most part just let it do its thing. They are very brittle though, so if your nervous in anyway do not pick it up as you can kill it if falls.

i have never been bit but i have friends who have. the only reason they were bit was becuase they were moving it around to much wich aggravated it. They told me it was like a bee sting but swelled a little bit more. my teachers baby corn snake was bitten by one and it survived
