Practically every male from 14- 60 volunteered during the organizational period after Pearl Harbor. All that any military branch had to do was pick and choose.

Actually, the Second World War was a popular war, and people enlisted in droves. The draft was involved and the draft system was quite fair in comparison to my time (drafted for the Viet Nam war), but early military buildup was largely voluntary.
Also, the US, while it bore the brunt of the Pacific War, was less than predominant in terms of manpower in the ETO, where the Russians had vastly more men under arms.

I'm not sure if they had to draft
in the 40's they were very patriotic and actually wanted to go fight, some of them even lied about their age
that all changed in the 60s of course
