My 3 children never used one however my second child, my daughter uses her thumb and it is also extremely hard to get her to stop sucking her thumb as it is ALWAYS attached.

My brother's sons used a pacifier and they just stopped giving it to them during the day first, and then weaned out the night time use. I have also had people stop cold turkey with their children. I have heard them say they may have a screaming child for a few days, however, knew that eventually the child would stop crying. They also bought a new teddybear or a blanket to try and distract their child.

Good luck - I know how hard it can be - I have 3 children - 5, 2, 1. Merry Christmas!

do not just snatch it from him cause he would have a withdraw issue and whine and cry all day. Slowly take it from him. Let him have it only in the morning and the rest of the day put it on top of the fridge or somewhere he cannot get it. Yes he can get buck teeth but its a 25% chance and if not buck teeth Iam sure he could have issues maybe later in life. I would give him the bink in the morning for 1 hour for one week then for week 2 give it for 20 minutes in morning and by week 3 throw the bink to the trash!!!yippe. he may be a crab but try rewarding him with a .50 cent matchbox car. Try a partially melted ice cube for him to feel with his tongue. maybe a popsickle or somethink smooth like a teething ring.

Your baby will not get buck teeth from sucking on a pacifier!!! He is an oral person and likes the sensation! If he must have it at bedtime, substitute other sucking things during the day(I am presuming he uses his binky all the time). Such as a wash cloth dipped in cold water; time his usage give it to him for certain lengths of time during the day.

If you are feeling pressured by others, thank them and tell them your baby will give up his binky on his own. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry at this point. There is nothing adversly connected with prolonged use of a pacifier, within a reasonable period. My son, now 5 1/2 had his until, off and on, he was 2 1/2.
We never forced him to give it up we just encouraged him to get rid of it. He just got to a point in his life where he voluntarily gave it up. He started to feel silly around other kids.
Don't let it bother you and dont make a project out of it.
My son is very well adjusted, does well in school and his teeth are fine. My father is an oral surgeon and, believe me, we were acutly concerned with tooth or mouth damage.
Encourage your child to give it up but there is really no harm in it.
Give both you and your child a rest. There are more important issues to be more concerned with.

I know exactly what ur going thruogh. The secret to it is u have to wait for the right moment. Just taking it away will not work.
For me when my little one was about 14 months old (and walking around sucking on the passy) He got sick and was miseralbe the last thing he was thinking about was the binky and when he was back to himself I had hid the passy to where he could't see it and kept him occupied with other activities and he eventually forgot about it.

The secret to keeping him off is to be sure he doesn't see it. Once he sees it he will want it and u will be back to square one.

If he likes it That Much...let him have it. Why do you need to take it away from him? I kept mine until I was 3. I have had several friends let their children keep them until 3 -4 as well. None of them (or me) had buck teeth.
You have to be able to rationalize with your son; to encourage him to let it go Etc Etc and he is too young for all that.
Let him have it - that's my advice.

Besides, if you do take it away and he finds his thumb...Then you have real problems because you can't get rid of that!
The only people I have ever known who had buck teeth from sucking on things are the thumb suckers.

If you have people in your life telling you to take it away from him, I think you need to make the choice that is right for you & your son. That is quite frankly, no ones buisness or place to get involoved.

some of them are rude. I'm sorry some of us don't want to see our children cry. None the less I would suggest you doing what ever it is you did to wean him from the bottle. You could throw them away when he's sleeping but will he wake up and look for it? I would slowly take it. Perhaps only let him use it for napping and sleeping. Then only sleeping. Then only every other day and so forth. That way he's not completely frustrated because he doesn't know where it is. Good luck.

My kids gave up the pacifier at 17 months.. they just threw it away themselves. Don't force the issue most will just not want it anymore, they have a lot more fun stuff going on like drinking from a cup, normal food and toddler toys.

I saw this on one of the nanny shows, and i hope it works for my little one. Tell your lil one that other lil ones out there don't have any binkies and that he can help by giving his to them. the binky fairy willl come and pick them up if you hang them in a tree and she will deliver them to other lil ones that need them. In return she will leave you something in return(your choice; money or a toy that he really wants ect.)

I wouldn't take it away yet. everyone was on me about my 2 year old with one and one day she just forgot about it like it was nothing she was bay like 26 mos. when she forgot about it. I tried taking it away too but cutting it a little and little more each day but it became to much of a hassle and i figured why not let her have it you wouldn't take a childs blanket away from them if thats what they use for comfort so why a pacifier? I don't get it and she doesn't have anything wrong with her teeth...just use an orthodontic one and you'll e fine. but if your really goin to get rid of it you can cut a little piece away from it each day.
