The results were that the motion to re-open the debate (for an eventual restoration of the traditional definition of marriage as the union between a man and a woman) was defeated. Thus the Prime Minister has declared the issue closed. The reason that the motion was defeated was in large part because the BQ and NDP parties were "whipped" (ie. all MP members of those parties were forced to vote against the motion -- no freedom of choice). As well, although the Liberal leader officially granted a "free vote" to members of his party, for all practical purposes, this was not the case (unless, of course, you don't mind sabotaging your political career). This means that there was merely an illusion of a "free vote" -- not a real one. The vast majority of Canadians are for the restoration of traditional family (and marriage) values in this country. Unfortunately, the merciless political agenda of a few are controlling the legislation here.

The sad thing is that people do not realize that the fact that something is legal does not make it morally or ethically right. (I say this without any offence intended to any one group of individuals).
