I have a 1987 dodge dakota truck 2-wheel drive,3.9,and the transmission is slipping,whats wrong?

You didn't say if it was a manual (which would be a bad clutch) or auto (start by checking your fluid level, if good you probably need a rebuild).

Clutch is worn out or not adjusted or no trans fluid...
