You can never go wrong dressed in black. I think that it began with THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS invented by Coco Chanel.

I don't - I love colours, especially RED - I think people who ALWAYS wear black are boring - they're too afraid to stand out, and take the easy way by resorting to the tried and true black, but then I am very slim, so like some people are saying, some people may always wear it for the slimming effect. Black is sexy, but so are colours - and there's nothing more sexy than somebody who has the confidence to wear something eye catching.

It is a simple color- everyone looks good in black, whether blonde or brunette, fat or thin, young or old. Also, it is appropriate for nearly every occasion (except perhaps weddings, but that is changing too). It is also easier to find interesting accessories that match it- those shiny red pumps will match your little black dress, but not your pretty purple one. Lastly, it is classic and will never go ut of style, so there is no need to worry about buying a new formal outfit for every season!

It started with black tie dinner parties long time ago.
It does have slimming effect but only few years ago a good compliments to a french women was your husband has put on few pounds since the marriage or last time we saw each ether. Meaning you have been taking good care of him.

Because they are afraid to look like they are, badly shaped, fat, tasteless, vulgar or colorless....black gives you a touch of elegance and slimness and makes people think you are a person of the world.
French women are literally in love with black.. the first time I took my American wife to France for Xmas we went to a lot of parties and she was so surprised that she asked me :"But why are they (the ladies) all in black?"... I said :"Lack of imagination, fear to be noticed unfavorably..." She is still laughing....

To social parties, dark colors are what is sophisticated and proper. Black, dark browns, deep burgundy. Dark gray, also. High society does not use floral or any bright colors. Then you add a few diamonds or pearls and you are a hit. It is refered to as being Socially acceptable in fashion.
