It really depends on your office and line of work. No "study" on a best day is going to give you a custom fit answer. For example, in my field, the best day for a weekly meeting is Wednesday because Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays are usually heavy court days, so no one is in the office. Friday is everyones "Monday" so no one is focused. The best time for us is Wednesday. It is mid-week so we welcome the break and also know that we have two more days to make up for lost time.

I would not go so far as to say "proven", but if the subject matter were serious I'd avoid Mondays (people recovering from the weekend) and Fridays (people looking forward to the weekend).
