I need to know how mice are getting into my house

Moth Balls.... lots of them! The smell should drive them out and in the attic I doubt you would smell them in the house.
Mice got into a stored car and ate all the wiring to the air conditioner... the mechanic said put moth balls around the undercarriage and they won't come in!

Trap a few owls and turn them loose in your attic.

they could get through holes wherever in your house. Buy or burrow a cat from a neighbour, maybe the smell could drive them away.

use traps, with poison you dont know where they will die, in the wall in between floors. i got a cat

get a 10gage shot gun and a flash light works every time
