If all you need to do is to check that your right angles really are at 90 degrees, then you need the biggest big set-square you can find. If you haven't got one, improvise - use the edges of a piece of newspaper. If that is too awkward, call in Pythagoras the Greek. Measure 3 "units" (3 x 1 foot, 3 x 8 inches or whatever) along one of the members leading away from the corner in question, and 4 units (4 feet, or 4 x 8 inches, or whatever is your chosen unit) along the other member. Mark the 3-unit and 4-unit points. Then, measure between the two marks, and jiggle the two members about until that measurement is 5 units - 5 feet, or 5 x 8", or whatever. Then, your marks will be at the corners of a triangle with one side 3, one side 4 and one side 5 units long.
A 3-4-5 triangle always has a right angle at one corner.

Q.E.D., as they used to say in my school geometry lessons.

For stability, the legs will need to be 'splayed' out a few degrees. To ensure you get the angles the same, make a template from MDF/Plywood. Consider also that wheras a triangle is a rigid shape, a rectangle can move. Triangles rule, ok....
