The morning after pill is 89% effective if taken within 72 hours.
Smoking does not affect the effectiveness of the pill, but women using the pill should absolutely not smoke because it increases the chances of serious side effects (like blood clots.)

According to the Mayo Clinic... they claim that the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) claims an 80% effective rate using Plan B Morning After Pill regimen..., planned parenthood is stating other satistics which are higher... teenwire.com is website for teens.
U need to wear a condom EVERY TIME & not put your girlfriend through this method every again. It wrecks havoc on her physical and hormonal system to try to prevent conception when you should be man enough to handle the situation. It's no cream puff experience.
Smoking doesn't make the effectiveness any better... it does increase her change of having a blood clot and if it dislodges can kill her. So lay off the cigarettes with her and take care of her while she goes through this mess.
If you two think ur grown up enough for sex, at least have the brains to get her on the pill and stay on it. Not one month off two... or use EC or Plan B as birth control. And you need to wear condoms everytime. The pill doesn't protect either of u from STD's ... especiall HPV... once u got it, it's for life.

The current FDA-approved product labeling states that levonorgestrel treatment can prevent 89% of expected pregnancies, and that EC (including the Yuzpe method) reduces the risk of pregnancy by at least 75%.[13]
The effectiveness of emergency contraception is expressed as a percentage reduction in pregnancy rate for a single use of EC. An article in American Family Physician explains a 75% effectiveness rate this way: ... these numbers do not translate into a pregnancy rate of 25 percent. Rather, they mean that if 1,000 women have unprotected intercourse in the middle two weeks of their menstrual cycles, approximately 80 will become pregnant. Use of emergency contraceptive pills would reduce this number by 75 percent, to 20 women.[14]
The effectiveness of emergency contraception is highest when taken within 12 hours of intercourse and declines over time.[15][16] The limit of 72 hours is based on a study by the World Health Organization (WHO).[7] A subsequent WHO study has suggested that reasonable effectiveness continues for up to 120 hours (5 days).[17] However, many doctors (particularly in the U.K.) advise use of an IUD rather than ECP's for emergency contraception between 72 and 120 hours.

If it was taken with in 72 hours (which you said it was taken within a hour) then its very effective. You should have no worries. As for smoking, it can effect birth control, but I dont think it can effect the morning after pill to much.

Not sure how effective the morning after pill is--but heard it is very effective. However, smoking does not change the effectiveness of the pill but it can make your girlfriend more suseptible to blood clots and stroke, so you should encourage her not to do it.
