If you are only menstruating for one year an irregular period is quite normal. Nevertheless it might be a good idea to find a nice and trustworthy doctor, maybe a woman, with whom you can share your concerns.

First, have you spoken to a trusted adult (preferably female) about this? If not, you should do so.

Second, once your womanly body begins to develop (ie - menstruation begins), you should begin seeing a gynecologist. There is nothing to be afraid of. Irregular periods are more common in early years than you would think. The hair around your nipples indicates a possible chemical imbalance though. A gynecologist could diagnose this and provide a prescription that would easily rectify the situation.

Your mom and doctor would be valuable resources during this exciting and sometimes confusing time in your life.

Good luck on your journey to womanhood.

Not to worry. Why do you think you have an ovarian cyst? Do you have pain and swelling, tenderness in that area? You just started having periods, so they will adjust in regularity over time. Your body is getting used to floods of hormones every month and is learning how to react.

The hair is probably hereditary. If you have Greek, Italian, maybe German, or Spanish/Mexican ancestry, or you have a headful of thick, dark hair, that is probably why. And your "quite a lot" might be someone else's "a little bit".

Can you talk to your mom about all this, or to an older sister? If not, a doctor will allay your worries.

My periods were irregular for about 5 years so it is no big deal. It's actually normal for you to take a while to regulate. Then I went on birth control. It was really wierd after that; at one point I had 3, yes 3 periods in one month. That was caused by the shot that you get every 3 months (depo prevera) for those of you who wanted to know. I had to go on a medicine to regulate myself. So you just never know. You shouldn't worry too much. If it really bothers you, talk to a gynocologist.

You probably have PCOS. I have the same symptoms as you. Are you considered obese or over-weight by your doctor? That is also a symptom of PCOS besides being hairy and irregular periods.

I lost the extra-weight but I sill have all the other symptoms of PCOS and am still under the medication for PCOS. Many women have PCOS and don't know it. Just take the medication that your doctor will proscribe to you and live life with no worries.

I never had a regular period, they were all irregular from 12 to 16 so the doc put me on birth control. Wait it out , it can take a few years to see if they settle down.

Try not to worry about it. Its hard. But irregular periods in the teen years are normal. And having hair around your nipples is also normal. If your that freaked out about it maybe a talk with a trusted adult/nurse/doctor will help.... best of luck!

I started to have my period right around the age you are now and mine was kind of irregular. But if I were you , I would go to the doctors to let them examine you. I got examined when I started to just make sure everything was ok and it was. Please dont be afraid. Ask your mom to take you for a pap test. Of course every womanns body is different but most likely everything is going to be ok. As for the hair around your nipples im not sure. Maybe a small hormonal imbalance. Please mention that to your doctor when you go for a visit. I wish you luck. God bless

It's completely normal. Most girls' periods aren't normal for at least a year, maybe more. You should definately wait. Maybe talk to some of your friends and see what they think? Or you can ask Dr. Iris Prager, a menstrual expert, at www.beinggirl.com

so youre saying its been going CONSTANTLY for a year? if thats what youre saying, yeah thats a problem.

But if, say, in january you got it on the 15th, and it stopped on the 21st, then you got it on febuary 28th for two days, that;s normal for an adolecent. it can take up to three years for it to get into a normal cycle. as for the nipple hair, i think it will just go away as your hormones ajust themselves. everything just gets kind of confused and then it finds a good balence by the time youre about 20. hope this helps!
