The director is the person who sets the tone of the movie and interprets the script as he sees it. He (or she) typically sees the story as a whole and gives it his own stamp. He instructs the actors on how to say their lines, their facial expressions and tone. Virtually anything that happens on a movie set is subject to the approval of the director. The final product is the direct result of decisions made by the director.
Some of the great directors to come out of Hollywood: Billy Wilder, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Jackson
