Hey

I won a bid on ebay, but the seller doesn’t take Paypal. Yeah, I know, tell me about it.

But they take, money order, or cashiers check. So, I’m thinking of going and getting a cashiers check from my bank. But my question is, the item that I won on ebay was sold in British Pounds, so I have to pay in that currency. Will my bank make out a cashiers check in British Pounds rather than US dollars?

I think the seller will accept personal checks but I just don’t feel comfortable giving such and not sure if a bank in England would even cash it. So like I said, would my bank (a US bank) make out a cashiers check to me in British Pounds, so that I can pay for my item and send off the payment?

Thanks for any help and your time.

The seller on ebay said that they would except money order as another form of payment. From what I understand they are stuck on the idea of not doing Paypal, but as I won the bid, I have to pay the seller. But would money order be better and can I also get the money order to be in British pounds rather than US dollars? Again, thanks.

To crisply answer your question, yes any major international bank can do a check in another currency.

But I would not advise it.

A cashiers check can be cashed very easily and you may never see your merchandise. Especially when the merchant is so far away.

I would insist on Paypal or a credit card.

If that is still impossible there are some escrow techniques that hold the money for a fee, notify the seller, they ship and when you receive you release the funds. If they don't like this approach too bad.

And don't do a personal check, but this alternative is slightly better than a cashiers check because at least you can go to eBay with a complaint of you do not see the merchandise. You will have a signed cancelled check to prove payment.

Good luck.

I know BofA does, and Citibank. Any of the bigger banks should. And have them make it out to him, not you. What are you going to do with British Pounds?
