An easy one is exponenial growth. Say you have a bottle with 2 bacteria in it. The bacteria reproduce (by dividing themselves into two) every hour. At the end of hour 1 you have 4. Hour 2 you have 8. The population continues to double for as long as you want it to and each time the number it grows by is increased. If you were to place it on a graph you would see a curved line that starts close to horizontal and quickly becomes vertical.
Hope this helps.
