Presumably you are talking about a floor screed which is made with sharp sand. Of course sharp sand is also used for concrete while building sand is generally only used for mortar. Check out the free leaflets from virtually any large DIY centre for more info on floor screeds.

zone2,sharp sand for concreting. red building sand for brickwork if its to sharp its not as spreadable than normal building sand

you cant beat the best way lay a ballast mix mith lots of sharp sand at the same time and make it nice and runney it levels it self moreless
