Another example of wating too long to administer justice(Pol Pot's so-called trial a prime example) Makes you wonder why do the U.N & nations wait till these former leaders are old & frail to finally make justice against them for committing crimes against humanity?

President Pinochet saved Chile from Communism.

After the Allende regime destroyed the economy, Pinochet righted it and set Chile on the road to where it is today, the fastest growing economy in Latin America.

There's no doubt that some died and more were imprisoned or roughed up, but this is what happens when a Communist regime is removed. Had Allende managed to pull off his own Bolshevik coup, which in 1973 he asked Pinochet to help him do, a lot more people would have died or wound up in gulags. Ask any Cuban.

When I hear people like President Bachelet grousing that her family (her father was a prominent Communist general) was among those roughed up, let me remind her that the freedom all Chileans enjoy today (and that enabled her to win a free election) was purchased by Pinochet. Had he not acted, President-for-Life Allende and his successor "comandantes" would still be running their tyranny today, and everyone in Chile would be earning US$12 a month.

George (louis theXIV) Bush killed have as many people in one night in "Operation Just BEcause" in Panama than the Honorable El Generalissimo Augusto Pinochet did in 17 years. To many Chileans he was a hero.
