Arthur, King of the Britains, one of the Nine Worthies.
The legends of Arthur are still full of life and the yearning to bring peace and order out of Chaos even today.
His mythic story not only holds the ideals of mankind, but also the realities that bring those ideals into conflict and downfall, and finally the hope that those ideals will come again.

Flash Gordon(the 1930's version from comics and serials, not the brain-dead mullet-haired one from the campy 1980 movie.
Flash is strong, smart, honest, and trying to save the world. He's also a helluva rocket pilot and shoots a mean raygun. If I was him, I'd hook up with Princess Aura instead of Dale Arden, though.

Atrayu (sp?) from Neverending Story. He took on such a treacherous and exhausting journey for the good of his world, but the further he travelled the more courageous and dedicated he became. He conquered every obstacle, lost his beloved steed, and killed his arch enemy. Great movie.

I would say Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy. She really is so good playing that character. She made a lot of people laugh.
