Most employers hire pharmacists with a entry level Pharm. D degree that requires a 6 year education.
This starts off with pre pharmacy schoolwork that is 2 years. Then the professional program which is 4 years. You take the both the Pharmacy Board License and NAPLEX exam and you recieve your Pharm D degree at graduation.
Later, pharmacist would do residencies at a hospital which is 1 to 2 years. Optionally, pharmacists can take the Board Certification Exam to become a specialist like a clinical pharmacotherapist.
However, with the increase in drug information, pharmacy schools in the future will require students doing one year of residencies making the entry level PharmD degree a 7 year education.

I think that it takes 6 years and if I had to do high school and college all over again I would have chosen to be a pharmacist because their is good money in it, steady work, and many places to find a job.
