Are pointsettia really poisonous, my teacher said so. this question has been in my head for days! plz help

you or your cat would have to eat A LOT!!!!! of leaves to get any ill effects...something like 80 or more. don't worry about it...don't eat it, of course, but don't worry about your pets, it is a beautiful plant, and the poison thing is a common misunderstanding...i researched it because i have a cat.

Nope, completely a myth. But it's still common to hear older gardeners say that they are. There probably isn't a whole lot of nutritional value to eating one (just fiber), but they are not toxic. I'm not really sure what the orgin of this theory is.

However, most Poinsettias are grown in greenhouses and sprayed with potent chemical pesticides. It would definitely not be advisable to eat one just to prove a point.

i'm not sure but i've heard it before too. I think they're just poisonness to animals but don't quote me on it.

Pointsettas are in the night shade family, which means they do have some toxicity.
