Well this goes back all the way to the ancient times of the Mexican tribes the word Ho-mi is derived from the Latin word Ho"meaning house a place of refuge" making the comparison to an other person and calling them a homie or homies plural only institutes the closeness of the friendship.

It's an old tradition to spill the first drink of the first beer for your friends that have been killed. This goes way back before there were "homies". I first heard of it in the late 60's from an old guy that had been in prison where he learned about it.

It comes from the 1993 one-hit-wonder song "This is For My Homies Who Ain't Here (Gangsta Lean)", by D.R.S.
D.R.S. stands for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the members of which were Endo, Pic, Jail Bait, Deuce Deuce and Blunt.

Could that mean for the ghosts that are at home? Don't know, but I love it!
Maybe www.witchvox.com could help? There is a place to contact them on the left of the screen in their site, I believe.
I'm gonna try em' too, cause' now I want to know.

People share drinks with their deceased friends just as they did in life. It's a sign of continuing friendship and respect.

the term this is for the homies, refers to friends that have passed away - sacrificing your liquor to pay tribute to them. 'spill sum liquor for my niggahs that gone before me...'

Maybe they are just spilly talkers. I would cry if they purposely spilt alcohol on the floor.

i can't think of any sources that talk about the subject, but if you want to know what it means, it's basically to mourn those who have died.
