I want to get my doctorate and become a psychologist and end up making a substantial salary. Do I go to medical school or is there a specialized graduate school solely for psychology? Please provide further info and advice if you'd like.

Thanks

Medical school = psychiatrist. Mega dollars. You'll be able to prescribe meds, and generally-speaking you'll be working in a mental hospital or psych ward.

Ph.D = Psychologist, good middle-class living -- eventually. Chances are good you'll be working in a government-funded organization somewhere.

MSW = poverty unless you marry someone who makes good money.

you do not need a medical degree unless you wanted to be a psychiatrist whcih requires a medical degree before you can specialize in an area like psychiaty. there are a myriad of schools offering masters and PhD's or PsD's. go to the library and ask for a book listing universities(that is where you get PhD's) and colleges (they only give Master degress) that specialize in graduste degrees in psychology. you will be overwhelmed at your choices.

There are grad schools that specialize in psychology. I recenly googled that very subject. I came up with a number of grad schools in my area. I have also talked to a PhD about where he attended grad school. If you have no constraints and can move around you can also look into schools in other areas.
Good luck to you!!!!
