It would depend on how my parents, friends, and the rest of society treated me. If I was disrespected b/c of my LD then obviously I would have low self-esteem. If I was given support, opportunities, and love then obviously I would have great self-esteem.

I have a learning disability, and that in itself has never made my self esteem low. The fact that I completed everything else in college and could not find adequate help for math because the accessibility office refused me help that made my self esteem a little low. In general though, I think that anyone can work through it as I have. Keeping the attitude of low self esteem would probably just hold that person back from succeeding in my humble opinion.

It depends on the severity of the learning disability. Often students with ADD or ADHD have low self esteem because they are often redirected (reminded to stay on task, stop fidgeting etc) by the teacher. THey have often have few friends because they have problems "sharing" a conversation and this interferes with relationships.
Students with Communication disorders such as word finding skills also have low self esteem because they are sometimes made fun of when the "pull the wrong word" or say "um um um... when they are trying to find the right word. This again interferes with social skills and thus friends.
Children with Aspergers often suffer from depression, because they are often very very smart but cannot put their intelligence into the social arena. I am generalizing here, which is probably not fair, but keep in mind this is most people with autism are self-centered, they have spacial issues, (standing too close to others in a conversation), they interupt, don't take turns in a conversation, usually do not have a strong sense of apathy or sympathy for others, and can be painfully honest and not take the other person's feelings into consideration. THese are skills the Language therapist and classroom teacher constantly work on in the classroom, and sometimes there is little carry over. But... these students have such a high intelligence that they know they are "not like others" but they can't figure out how to try to work on learning social cues. Because of this many "normal" people find people with autism to socially unworthy. It's very sad. THe students I have had in my Cross-Cat classroom have been on mood enhancements and various medications for depression.
SO... to answer your question.. yes students with learning disabilities often suffer from low self esteem and depression. Especially students in middle school and high school where school is an academic and social arena, and these students struggle in both areas.

Spot on "Mckayla M" you wrote some very good reasons why those with learning difficulties suffer from low self-esteem.
Of course with support from teachers and parents children can and do often make it through the school system. Some sadly don't due to lack of support or understanding or not having their learning difficulty being picked up. And usually have major self-esteem issues.

As a instructor, would I inform you some issues. First, standardized tests are purely used at school so as that super adult men on the ideal make billions of greenbacks. they have not got something to do with your intelligence, and are a waste of it gradual and MY time. i might plenty incredibly be coaching exciting issues to my scholars than dropping a good 6 weeks consistent with semester over meaningless crap. Now, that being stated regrettably you nevertheless would desire to take those tests. you would be able to desire to get a 504 plan which will assist you have beyond widely used time on a attempt and to apply a finding out centre. ascertain you learn in small increments previously the attempt, alongside with 30 minutes at a time. additionally, ascertain you're examined for upload. finally, i opt for to propose to envision the attempt aloud quietly to your self. in case you have any questions ask the instructor, although i comprehend generally that doesn't help, yet each so often it incredibly is a grammatical errors that the instructor has made whilst writing up the attempt. As for standardized tests, we don't create the tests and IMHO (and that i've got an IQ of one hundred sixty five) they're poorly written on purpose.

For learning, yeah. But I'd say to myself that all people are equal. If others can learn better than I can, then I must be better than them at something else.
