Yes you can rent breast pumps. Some hospital will rent them to you, or your local health unit will or they will know where you can rent them. As for cost I think that it varies from place to place. Make you look at how much it costs to buy one, and think about how long to plan to nurse for. It may be cheaper to buy one. Also think about if you want a manual or electric pump.

Yes, you can rent breastpumps. There are certain ones that are made to be rented. They have what is called a "closed system" so that the milk can't back up into the pump. You usually have to buy a "collection kit" (which is all the parts that come in contact with your breasts and milk) and then you rent the pump itself.
Contact your local hospital, a Lactation Consultant or a La Leche League Leader to find out who rents pumps in your area. It's been a long time since I looked into rentals, so I can't give you a very accurate figure on the expected price.

Yes, but if you are planning to use it for a long time it may be better to buy... then again rented ones come with maintenance and repair usually and are of better quality.
I rented my pump and it was $5/week + $200 refundable deposit + $50 for the plastic parts that actually touch the milk. These are not rented, even though in the hospital they sterilze and reuse them. However the plastic one I got works as a manual pump so it is still usuable after you return the electric pump.
So to rent a pump for a year would be $310 (260 + 50), and many pumps are less than that. However I have heard of the cheaper pumps not working as well in as little as 6 months. So you need to take that into consideration.
"Many times a decrease in pumping output is because pump parts need to be replaced. Have you checked your pump and replaced any parts that are worn or that haven't been replaced in the last 3-6 months? "

Generally if you are renting such check-ups and repairs would be included. Hope that umm helps *lol*

Oh yeah WIC and other organizations will give you one for free.

I rented a Medela electric breast pump for 2 weeks for about $100. It was affordable. Also, when you rent a breast pump, you purchase the parts that go with it so they are *yours* and not reused or resterelized for repeated use by different people. I rented in the Boston Mass area from a lactation consultant.

Renting a breast pump can get very expensive very fast and you may not want to but one. Before you rent one from the hospital or an outside source check with your city's WIC office. They encourage breatfeeding and rent out breast pumps for lower costs then hospitals or at no cost. The WIC program is great support for anyone who wants to breastfeed. They will do whatever they can to help you out. (They are a government run agency.)

There are only 3 companies that rent hospital-grade breast pumps: Medela, Ameda and the less available Whittlestone. To find out how much they cost to rent in your area, contact the companies directly to get names of local distributors at www.medela.com, www.hollister.com/us/mbc/breastfeeding/default.html (Ameda) or www.whittlestone.com. Hospitals, understandably, are not always the cheapest way to go, especially if paying for parking and extra gasoline for the trip.

I am not sure how much they are, as it would depend on the type you rented. But the hospital where you are delivering or did deliver, may rent them out. I know where I had my son asked if we wanted to. Talk to someone there.
Otherwise walmart is cheap. Maybe $35.00.
Also I believe our hospital gave us a portable one for free in a care package.

Hospitals usually have ones you can rent.... and they sterilize them so don't worry about that. Ask your hospital.

ewww i wouldn't, come on now they're under $20, suck it up and buy one. or do you enjoy other peoples bodily fluids that you dont know being on you? the rubber/silicone that helps the seal sometimes breaks down and retains trace amounts of whoever used it last.
