Tutoring: you tutor Spanish for $15 per hour and French for $10 per hour. You want to earn at least $100 per week.

1)Write an inequality that describes your goal in terms of hours spent tutoring Spanish and hours tutoring French.
2)Make a table that gives the amount of money that you can earn for each combination of hours that meet your goal.

first state the assumptions:
let x be the number of hours you tutor spanish for 1 week
let y be the number of hours you tutor french for 1 week

therefore you need a combination of x hours of spanish and y hours of french at $15 for spanish and $10 for french to reach your goal of $100 per week.

the equation becomes like this

15x + 10y >= 100

for the table just

hours spanish french total
1 15 10 25
2 30 20 50
4 60 40 100

therefore you if you spend 4 hours on spanish tuition and 4 hours on french tuition, you get 100 by the end of the week.
not bad for 8 hours work huh?

however, if you choose to spend 8 hours of tuition in spanish, you find that you will earn 20 bucks more.

1) 10 Fr + 15 Sp >= 100
2) If Fr = 10, then 10 Fr = 100. And Sp >0.
If Fr = 9, then 10 Fr = 90. So, Sp>1

Etc

If I was you, Id like to tutor as much Spanish as possible, because its the way I will earn more. So, if you tutor 7 hours Spanish, you will earn more than 100 per week.

Take care

Ana

15x + 10y [is greater than or equal to] 100

To make a table, plug values in for x and y, such as 1, 2, 3, and 4 and so on.
