Yeah you pay for the licence to use the software, not for the disc itself.

If you did not get a Windows XP disc with your PC, then the code on the side of your PC is most probably an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) code for an OEM copy of Windows XP.
With that in mind, this code will NOT work with genuine non-OEM Windows XP Home or Pro discs. You need to use it only with other OEM copies of Windows XP.
**NB: OEMs are manufacturers who resell another company's product under their own name and branding. So for example when you buy a Dell computer which comes with XP pre-installed, it's likely to be an OEM copy of Windows XP.

If you didn't get a Windows XP disc or a restore disc, you do not have a legal copy of Windows XP. You will need to purchase Windows XP or contact the company you bought the computer from.

Yeah so why did u wipe it off? Anyway if its a non genuine windows disk why would that old product key work? It shoudnt. Just buy your own. its 200$ but thats what u get for wiping your windows off. I think it would say that that product key is already in use, enter in another. But try it see what happens if it doesnt work buy your own. I mean how else will microsoft manage its product?

Windows XP came with the computer. It should be on your recovery disk. Try putting in your recovery disk.

You say "non genuine windows disk".
I would be VERY careful with these disks. There is a process called slipstreaming that can put ANYTHING on a windows boot disk. Borrow the real CD from a friend. Use your key. All is well.

If it is not genuine...you won't be able to update your version...it comes with all kinds of other problems too. Did you get some discs with the comp....windows XP will be on one of those. ...I have a compaq and the XP programme is on Disc 1 of system recovery...double check any stuff you got with the PC...

Using another installation CD would work as long as you get the same version that was installed in the first place, home pro or media center.
I would suggest contacting the store you got your PC from and they may be able to supply a recovery disc.

no, the product key wudent work, pity, i have evry windows on disk and crack, lets you "activate windows" then it will say that invalid product key, then you just ask a friend to do alternate method and his genuine software will generate a code type it in on your comp and ull have downloads....PS i am NUFC madd!!!!!!

Go to safemode either f5 or f8 i think, then try the recovery disc. Can't promise anything but give it a go, good luck.
