Texas Hole Em. With Backgammon one can reach a level of expertise that can only go so far. Such as in calculating the outcome of various dice rolls and moves.

In Texas Hold Em like any good poker game, you have the bluff call going for you.

How can you calculate human behavior, specially when you are playing with shrewd players. To win at this game takes skill. Plus the stakes are better.

While the outcome of any single game or hand of Texas Hold Em or Backgammon depend a great deal on chance (the roll of the dice, or the flip of the cards) skill in both games can only be measured over a long term.

Additionally, how successful you are in the long run has a great deal to do with the contrast in your skill versus your opponents. Since you have more opponents in poker, you will probably be the worst player at the table less frequently than in backgammon. However, the impact of a bad player in poker isn't as positive as the impact of a good player is negative.

I would argue that Poker requires more skill, because to consistently win, you have to be better than the majority of your opponents. Also, more rounds of poker are played in a session, so the luck factor (the cards) is more evenly distributed among all players.

Also, the skill dependancy of Poker is variable by game and betting structure. Texas Hold Em requires much more skill than Razz, No Limit more than Limit and Ring Game more than Tournament.

More Opponents + More Variations + More Possible Outcomes = More Skill Required

The great thing about both games is that anyone can win enough to feel that they are skilled

Both are games of chance. The only skill needed in either is to not make moronic moves or bets.

Other than that, just recognize the possibilities / probabilities.
