Yes, I do agree -materialism is a by product of the social network. We as a community no longer center our effort on spiritual endeavor nor do we base a persons value on their standing in the "church". We base all value on things - what car, clothes, jobs and education - not that these are "bad per se" but they have left our society lacking. Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa are just the immediate evidence of this structural value change. We as a society strive to gain all we can forgetting the value of being all we can.

The whole idea of christmas is commercialism and you trying to damn people to hell is appalling. Many people for whatever reason don't get on or have families and I am not saying greed is good, but a certain amount of buying provides jobs and employment. So really other peoples "greed" provides you with employment. You can spend christmas with anyone or however you choose, you don't get to make judgements about others. Wow, such a loving person you are...

It really bothers me that Thanksgiving wasn't even over and already most stores had the Christmas stuff out on the shelves to get a leg up on competition to make an extra buck. I've evn had some of my family members TELL ME what they want ! Can you beleive that? I once had one of my sisters ask me for the receipt to take my gift back to the store so she could get what SHE wanted. I took my gift from her and left her house.

There's people who celebrate the secular/commercial aspect,

theres people who celebrate the religious aspect

and theres people who celebrate both.

I had to explain this to a staunch repulican the other day during debate and she almost cried when she "found out" that it is not allways about Christ's birth.

Yes, the meaning of Christmas, is the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we look into what Christmas is, it's not buying gifts, but its to give "Thanks " to our Savior who we really are truly blessed.
