yes you can but your computer will run at the speed of the slowest - pc-2100. it will dramatically increase the speed of your computer but save a few dollars and buy a matching piece of pc-2100. you will get the same results.

It is ok to add RAM but you want to use the same type as you already have. Adding a different type, such as a faster type will cause problems. You say you have 512mb of pc2100, so you can either add 512mb more of pc2100 if you have a spare slot, or change out the pc2100 for pc3200. I am guessing that you want to have a total of 1024mb when you finish. You can also get a 1024mb single chip, but I would stay with more or less what the computer came with and add that type.
