You might try "The Story of Henry Sugar" by Roald Dahl. It is in one of his short story collections. It's about a man so determined to cheat at cards that he learns a method of actually seeing through them! Like all Roald Dahl stories the ending is not entirely what you'd expect!

Of course you coulld tell a story about being totally unimaginative yourself and coming to yahoo answers with your request and being told that this is a cheat...and what would be the outcome if you revealed your source with-in the story itself? An 'a' of course.
