You will need an awl or a small solid pointed tool. The links are held together by a small spring loaded rivet. You need to press on this and release the link. A jeweller would have it done in seconds.

most can be altered as to length by adding/ removing links on the clasp. take it to a jewelery counter and let someone else do it since they have the necessary tools to make the changes. adding links may cost some money but shortening should be free or very low cost. if you have links removed, get them back so you have them if you need to put them back in.

I bought the Skyhawk for my husabnad and we just took it to a reputable jewler to get it sized.
They use some kind of little hammer to get the pins in and out.
