Everything that we as a society teach our kids to believe in (ie. Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Magic etc.) doesn't exist in this world.
Why do we get caught up in all of the lies? I believe it follows us into adulthood, how many people do you know that are HONEST AS THE DAY IS LONG?

I'm glad you brought it up because I believe it is healthy to be honest with kids. I remember when I found out about Santa Claus (through a YOUNGER cousin of mine no less) I was utterly disappointed and mad at the same time that my parents had lied to me for 11 years. That's why I have the idea that being honest and upfront with kids is definitely the best answer.

We perpetuate the lies as it were for several reasons,

1) Children need magic in their lives

2) Most myths have a moral lesson surrounding them. Santa be good/tooth fairy growing up.

3) It is a simple answer for life's complicated issues allowing children to remain children

4) It's fun

5) Adults need a little magic in their lives as well

There are more things on heaven and earth, then are dreamt of in just you're philosophy.

Those things are a child's and a childlike world, but the magic behind the idea, Ah! That can be very real.

The believe in abundant giving, and love, and protection, and other good things.

I trust you. There has continuously been stupidity in pop tradition, however it is going in stages, and it is hitting new lows. I'm relieved to peer right here on YA what number of men and women nonetheless rise up for warm morals, on the grounds that the media portrays society like our morals have long gone down the bathroom!!

If you have ever had kids you know that you can't be totally honest with them- some things are too complex or too mature to explain to them. However you're right, Santa Clause is TOTALLY UNECCESARY.

well when you tell your kids those things it lets them 1 be creative and 2 have hope even when things are bad. there is nothing wrong with telling kids fables and folk stories if it enhances their life. its when it becomes dangerous or hurtful that lies are bad.
