Splinting ribs is no longer advised because of respiratory compromise. Now, they send you home with pain medication. If you must cough or sneeze, they advise you to hold a pillow to splint the hurting part of your ribs just long enough to cough or sneeze or laugh - whatever will cause the pressure to hurt you.
However, if you have several fractured ribs, that's probably another story.

Go to your doctor and have them tell you how bad it is and they will treat it. No one should treat their own fractured ribs , to may complications.

Ouch! To my knowledge, the region is wrapped initially, pain killers are given, and the patient is advised to proceed with caution by getting plenty of rest, change sleep position, and stop any type of lifting. For a thorough prognosis, you need to contact your physician.

plenty of rest will help but they mainly need to heel on their own.
If your job involves a lot of movement or lifting heavy objects i would suggest taking a while off.
