Hubby had to take me to the ER around one a.m. this morning because I was having severe pain in my upper right abdomen that was shooting through my back. After several hours and an ultrasound later, the doc informed me that I have a poor little gallbladder full of stones. Since I'm 22 weeks pregnant, they really don't want to do anything about it at the moment-which is completely understandable.

Has anyone else had to deal with gallstones while pregnant? How did you get through it? What are the best ways to get the pain to go away if it flares back up? They told me to eat a rather bland diet but I'm having trouble trying to eat nutritiously yet blandly...got any suggestions?

When I was pregnant with my first child, I also was diagnosed with Gall stones. And yes it was painful at times. And like you they wanted to wait until after delivery to remove my gallbladder. What I did was try to see what things I ate that caused more pain, and then totally avoid those foods. The worst for me was ice cream, pizza. I managed through it, I think I was about 25 weeks when they found them. I would just lay down when it started hurting. But I was able to manage it mostly through diet.

My sister also had them when she was pregnant with #3, her doctor had given her vicadin for the pain which she took only when needed for the pain and she managed through it that way. And the baby came out healthy as could be. Both me and my sister had our gallbladder removed about 5 months after delivery. Hang in there!

I developed gallstones when I was pregnant with my second and didn't find out until after delivery. Gallstones often develop during pregnancy because your systems slow down and causes the gallbladder to store extra bile and form stones. Take the pain meds as needed. Follow up with the surgeon. Sometimes they will wait until after delivery, but at this stage they may want to operate. Avoid caffeine and greasy foods. Those make the pain worse.

Get Rid of Gallstones in as Little

There are diets that are supposed to help dissolve gallstones. Obviously you have to eat a certain way because you are pregnant, too. But you don't want to be in pain. Apple juice is a biggie that is supposed to help. Do some searches for gall bladder diets and adapt it to meet your pregnancy needs. Bland is not necessarily the answer, there are certain foods that are helpful. But stay away from fatty and overly spicy foods.

Good luck

they are very, very common...and some women develop them within the first three months after their child is born.

I ate a lot of TUMs ( to where I wanted to write the company and tell them how wonderful they are for getting me through my pregnancy). After the baby is born, if it is still a problem, it is a very simple outpatient surgery with 3 very small scars.
