SSI is a federal program, Texas would have no say the matter.

Here's the Web link for SSI:

Yes. But don't do it. It's a trap. It's been my observation that once a person gets on SSI, they are completely worthless. They get a handicapped mentality that pretty much ruins their life. My cousin is on SSI for bi-polar and she spends all day in bed. She was doing ok before but now she's 100% pathetic. She refuses to get a job because she worries that it will cut into her benfits or even more horrifying (to her) they might completely STOP her benefits if she finds a good job and functions like a real person. She is flat broke because the amount that she gets is poverty level.

SSI is for people who are quadrapelgic, or vegtables, or otherwise totally incapcitated. You don't want to be like that, do you??? If you take your medication, the smyptoms of bi-polar can be almost completely controlled and you can get a good job with a good income and the self-respect that comes along with all of those good things.

The really good news is that your affliction can be controlled with one small pill a day! This is great news. I don't know people in the 1700's used to do. Thank God we have medication for you.
I strongly encourage you to REFUSE to bow down to bi-polar. Fight it by taking your medication exactly as your doctor said, maintaining a good diet, getting adequate rest, and staying busy and focused on worth while activities.

Your life will be MUCH better if you don't get on SSI.

SSI is not State organized but Federal. Just like SSA.
Look into the guidelines at the Social security website.

In any state, you can get SSI if you are sufficiently disabled, and you can prove it, and the disability lasts more than a year.

Once you do it, you are trapped. I know of someone who has a family and is on SSDI and the wife has to worry what she makes until she has a kick *** job coz her hubby can't get his meds anymore if she makes very little...but more than his SSDI allows.
