Pick up any Bible: The gospels start with the story of Jesus, beginning with the annunciation to Mary, her stay with her cousin Elizabeth, then her journey to Bethlehem where her and Joseph had to register for the census...
To sum up: Joseph put his heavily pregnant wife on a donkey to go to Bethlehem; they were tired when they arrived but there was no room at the inn; given Mary's condition the inn-keeper let them stay in the stable where she gave birth.

There is not alot in the bible about the actual journey but I like the Luke 2 story the best.
