One of the most fascinating figures in the Welsh mythology and the Arthurian Legend is Merlin, the great wizard, prophet and adviser to several kings, including King Arthur.

Circe! Her story is older than Merlin's tale. She was a greek sorceress and the daughter of the sun god (or titan), Helios. She transformed Odysseus' men into swine and she kept Odysseus with her for a year with her magic. She is found in more than one greek tale using magic. She also transformed Scylla into a monster with 6 dog heads. Circe is known as a sorceress, godess, and nyph.

I think she is the most powerful because of he bloodline. Circe is not mortal and holds great power. She is also hot and if thats not a power then what is? lol

Well, the most known wizard of all times is definitely Merlin. although the only known spells he did was to help king Arthur to be born and to get Excalibur from a fairy, or mountain in some variations of the legend. his role was more to guide people on their way to freedom.

Raistlin from the dragonlance saga. I seem to recall he turned into a god or some such..

If you mean "real life," you probably want to look into people who have had a lot of charisma and made people believe crazy stuff. Like, Charles Manson, Ron Hubbard, Jesus ;) - just kidding, and many many more. Depends also on your definition of magic..
