I have a 94 Corsica which I was told that the intake gasket might be leaking, I would like to know for sure prior to getting it changed, but dont wanna pay the extra out to the garage or mechanic...is there a way to tell with out going to a garage.

spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid along the manifold, if the motor revs up, you found the leak :)

go buy a can of carb cleaner and spray around the intake gasket if the engine has a big change then the gasket is leaking. the carb cleaner will be sucked in through the leaking spot and cause a change in the engine speed

3.1L V6?

If so this is easy. Just take a flashlight and check around the area at the front and back of the engine below the intake manifold. If its wet, the gasket is leaking. Of course, if its a 3.1L V6 I can almost guarantee its leaking anyway. They all do.

listen to the engine while the car is running and if it is an intermittant steam hissing noise at the intake area or maybe down the exhaust pipe then you will know for sure---------- or go to a muffler shop and talk to the service dude and maybe they will check your problem for free and in hopes of doing the repair for you---- do not agree to a charge for their inspection ,,,only a bid for completed work ...and if they don't cooperate in this manner go to another muffler shop..do not give them this info-- keep it to yourself --- if the work estimate fits your budget then let them fix your car and remember that the exhaust system is now 12 or 13 years old and the pipes have been hot and cold for years and are now brittle and thin ---if you try to fix this yourself it will most likely break and you will wind up in the muffler shop anyway ...wc assume that the problem is intake and check the exhaust system that is usually what happens...if the problem is intake u will find trace of gas or oil-gum on top of the motor

Get a can of foam-type shaving cream. Put a little around the gasket and see if it gets sucked in. That will pinpoint the leak but go easy since you don't want a ton of soap in the cylinder. :)

start your car and spray something thats not flammable around the intake and see if it makes any difference in the idle.
