Cowboy, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't give medical advice.

Salmonella is not transmitted by bites. It lives in the digestive tract, is picked up by things that come out of the digestive tract (i.e., iguana feces), and has to get back into a human's digestive tract (such as via eating with unwashed hands) in order to cause a problem. And if you've got salmonellosis, you'll know. You'll be running at both ends and cramping in the middle. In short, it's nothing to worry about with an iguana bite.

As for the bite: Iguana mouths are a lot cleaner than human mouths, since iguanas are vegetarians and don't have traces of decaying meat stuck to their teeth. However, that's still potentially not very clean; it is a mouth, after all. Treat the bite like any other laceration, and watch closely for infection. If you observe redness, swelling, pus, excessive pain (more than it hurt an hour or so after the bite), heat, or other signs of infection, see a doctor immediately. Not in a couple of days, today.

I had an iguana bite that went to the bone. Treated it with a good washing-out with Betadine, aligned everything properly and closed it with butterfly bandages (it helps to be not squeamish here), coated the site with antibiotic cream, bandaged with 4x4's and tape, changed dressing daily. My finger healed without infection and barely a visible scar. Unfortunately, the relevant finger never did get all of the feeling back.

Go to the doctor. Since iguanas can carry Salmonella, you should be tested, unless you have had your friend test negative in the recent past, by a vet, not a pet store. More information on iguanas can be found on Melissa Kaplan's Herp and Green Iguana site, the best one on the web for iguanas. Her Basic Salad recipe is very good and has helped keep Iguanadonna healthy for years. She also has emergency first aid on there for your friend, with sound advice for the humans that suffer from bites and scratches, new habitats and more than I can ever read in one sitting.

Disinfect the bite, cover it, and put antibiotic cream on it. Keep it clean. If it gets infected go to the doctor.

dont worry just put alcohol on the bite and keep it clean.
also spend plenty of time with your little pet so biting doesnt become a habit.
:) iguanas are great pets.

iguanas don't have very bad pathogens- just wash it (soap and water is fine, but betadine or alcohol would be better) and put bacitracin or neosporin ointment on it. any kind of anti-bacterial ointment will do.

first make sure if its venomous or not, if it isn't then just wash it under soapy water to get all the bateria out because if you dont the bateria could spread throughout your body and might kill you, if it is venomous then you should be rushed to the hospital as soon as posible because venom could kill you within hours of the bite
