im going to NY for the winter break and i'm planning on watching a musical. But i'm not sure where to watch it and what to watch. What's the best or the most famous theater? How do i get cheap tickets? Do i have to buy them beforehand, or do i just buy them at the theater? What's a good musical to watch right now?

Check out the TKTS booth in Times Square. Here's their website: http://www.tdf.org/tkts/# . It explains all the how-when-where. Some shows also offer lotto tickets. Lottos are done a couple hours before each performance they're offered for. They're cheap (usually $20-25 each, depending on the show) but not all shows have lotto seats, and there's no guarentee you'll get seats. The how-to's for that are on the websites for the individual shows.

This site lists the shows currently running on Broadway, as well as showtimes, ticket prices, and box office phone numbers: http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/shows.htm . If there's a specific show you want to see, I'd recomend getting your tickets as soon as possible.

Oh, my. You've opened up a gushing fountain here. I have never seen a Broadway musical and would give my eyeteeth to do so. The closest I ever came was to see A Chorus Line at the Wharton Center at MSU one time and that was a privilege, believe me. I guess my all time favorite would be South Pacific, not so much because of the story, but all the beautiful and funny songs and lyrics. There's Nothing Like a Dame, I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair, Some Enchanted Evening, I'm In Love With a Wonderful Guy, You've Got to be Taught - they're all great. I also would have loved to have seen Ethel Merman in the original Gypsy. You are mean to limit us to only one.

it is VERY difficult to get cheap broadway tickets on the spot. for show recomendations, it depends on your taste. Like 50s/60s music? See Hairspray. Love The Wizard of Oz? See Wicked. Disney Fanatic? Lion King or Beauty and the Beast are amazing. Hope I helped! If you have any more questions, ask!

I doubt if you can get tickets this late - but we loved "Grey Gardens" - incredible performances.

For half price tickets, go to the TKTS booth in the hotel lobby at Times Square ... you can't miss it. You have to stand in line - and then find out what shows they have 1/2 price tickets for that day - but it's a great way to get cheap tickets.

I have no current help for you, but dont you worry! Youll see something weird or wonderful there! There are no total disasters playing. Grey Gardens is worth a bit advance work by buying them on line... Its an amazing show!
Have a ball!
